Newry waste management firm Transco Waste, its director and a landowner have been fined £8,000 for fuel laundering and waste offences.
Fuel laundering waste, which had been hidden under genuine waste within a shed, was discovered by Northern Ireland Environment Agency, HMRC and police officers at the firm’s site in Concession Road, Cullaville, Crossmaglen in October 2013. The site was within a close proximity to a school playing field.
The parties were convicted at a hearing at Newry Crown Court on 9 June after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing.
Transco Waste, which has an O-licence for three vehicles and a trailer, was fined a total of £6,000 for three charges bought under the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997.
Director Vivian Devlin was fined £1,250, while landowner Paul Devlin was fined £750.
The parties will also pay a total of £310 in court costs.
