Lawton Tubes has taken delivery of its first Volvo in more than a century of operation.
The 380hp 6x2 Volvo FM rigid joins the Coventry-based family-run company’s fleet of 12 vehicles, and will be used to deliver copper tubing nationwide.
“This time around, we found that Volvo put forward the most competitive package in terms of vehicle availability, performance and pricing,” said Giles Lawton, MD – operations at Lawton Tubes.
It has been specified with a Globetrotter cab with Single Bed Living package. This adds a lower bunk with a pocket-sprung mattress, luxury sleeper control panel and a 28-litre wall-mounted fridge. The interior also benefits from a 12in fully dynamic instrument cluster, paired with a 9in side display, courtesy of Volvo’s Information package with navigation support. It also features optional V-Shaped LED headlights, and electrically heated rear view mirrors. Safety is enhanced with Lane Keeping Support and Lane Departure Warning systems and Forward Collision Warning with Emergency Braking technology.
At the business end of the truck is a Fred Smith & Sons’ SlidaFlex body.
The 26-tonner was supplied by Rory Kelly, transport solutions executive at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre South & East. It will make six to seven drops a day, covering roughly 115,000km annually, and is backed by a five-year Volvo Gold Contract.
“As a member of the fourth generation of Lawtons to run this business, both myself and our team know a thing or two of what makes a good truck,” added Lawton. “The service we’ve received from Volvo so far has been top-notch – Rory and his colleagues have been extremely helpful. When we visited Volvo’s Coventry depot we were made to feel very welcome and were hugely impressed with the facilities there.”
- Volvo Trucks will be exhibiting at this year’s Road Transport Expo, which takes place at Stoneleigh NAEC on June 28-30. It’s FREE to attend, and registrations are now open.
