Mercedes-Benz has secured the largest single order of its eActros 600 to date. The company will deliver 1000 units to the Swiss building materials producer Holcim. Both firms have signed a joint letter of intent for this order which contributes towards sustainability goals for Holcim and Mercedes

The trucks will primarily be used with silo trailers to transport materials such as cement. The eActros has 600kWh battery capacity which provides a range of 500km on a single charge. Holcim plans to integrate intermediate charging into driver’s breaks to maximise daily range up to 1000km. The trucks can charge up to 400kW and will later be made compatible with megawatt charging. Once megawatt charging is more widely available and standardised the units will be retrofitted with the equipment required for this type of charging. At around one megawatt charging the batteries can go from 20 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes.

Karin Rådström, CEO at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, said: “Holcim is one of Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ most important customers in the construction industry. We are very pleased that the company decided for the eActros 600 in its transformation towards alternative drives. Our electric truck with the three-pointed star sets new standards in terms of efficiency.”

Miljan Gutovic, region head for Europe at Holcim, said: “Holcim is advancing the transition to more sustainable and efficient transportation by decarbonizing our operations’ logistics. We are excited to be partnering with Mercedes-Benz Trucks to electrify our fleet, accelerating our goal for 30% of our heavy-duty truck purchases or contracts to be zero-emission by 2030.”

eActros production will begin towards the end of this year and alongside tractor units, the model will be available in rigid variants too. Following the global launch of the eActros in October 2023, 50 prototypes are being built for practical testing with first customers ahead of series production.
