The Mercedes-Benz Unimog is getting a new operating system, Uni-Touch will be available in all units ordered from now as standard, with deliveries commencing in the second half of the year. The system is underpinned by a new electronic architecture and a revised centre console which can be adjusted to the driver’s preference with sideways, forward and back movements.
Mercedes-Benz announced Uni-Touch at the agricultural machinery, equipment and technology show, LAMMA 2024. The new system features a 10.5-inch touchscreen display which can be set up with shortcut buttons for regular operations. This allows operators to minimise the number of inputs required to perform a specific task. This screen can be rotated and angled up and down to achieve the ideal viewing position.
For simple operation, control elements can be assigned to a joystick which can be installed on the right folding armrest. This allows the driver easier access or the joystick can be fitted on the right side of the front passenger seat. In the VarioPilot dual-steering configuration this means it can be used by the passenger or from this side with ease.
Uni-touch comes in all Unimog models from U219 to U535, encompassing vehicles with GVW from 7.5- to 16.5-tonnes. There’s two variants suited to implement carriers or extreme off-roading. The former covers the UGE range from U219 to U535 and the latter is labelled UHE with models from U4023 to U5023.
Demonstrating the capability of the U535, Mercedes displayed this model at LAMMA, specified as a farming tool. The vehicle featured a 354 hp engine, rear power take-off unit and rear hydropneumatic suspension to offer improved stability with heavy loads and smoother coupling and uncoupling processes. Paired with the right implements, the Unimog can be a farm workhorse or on the road it can offer better fuel economy than traditional agricultural vehicles.
