Scania has announced its new UK sales director Mark Bridgland. Spearheading Scania’s transition to zero emission vehicles and leading the way into the next generation of heavy transport, Bridgland will be responsible for its truck, power solutions, bus and coach sales teams.
Chris Newitt, managing director for Scania UK is confident Bridgland will use his expertise from previous automotive roles to bolster Scania’s sales efforts. Newitt said, “I am delighted to welcome Mark to Scania UK. He has a proven track record and will bring a wealth of valuable experience into the business and the sales team.”
Bridgland’s tenure began 4 September, when he joined Scania from the US-based car retail firm Group 1 Automotive. Here, Bridgland spent a decade in various senior roles including as a MD, to which he was appointed in September last year. His automotive background extends beyond Group 1 Automotive to a number of years working for Renault, Mercedes-Benz and Lookers.
Commenting on his new position, Bridgland said: “Scania is known around the world for its heritage, innovation, and deep engineering integrity. It’s my privilege to lead this fantastic company’s sales division in the UK through this exciting period of transition.
“I couldn’t be more excited to join the team at a time where they’re shaping the future of this iconic company in the UK. Our role is to build our brand’s equity while ultimately enriching the lives of our customers.”
Bridgland succeeds Scania’s former UK sales director Vincente Connolly, who was promoted to MD for Scania East Africa in July of this year. Connolly held the role of UK sales director for four years before taking on his new position. He now looks after customers and teams in East Africa, encompassing Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Ethiopia.
