The latest generation of Scania vehicles will feature more advanced technology systems to improve safety and functionality in its trucks, buses and coaches. The improvements include a new digital dashboard interface, over-the-air (OTA) software updates, better navigation and advanced safety features.
Stefan Dorski, senior vice president, head of Scania Trucks, said: “Apart from great overview and endless opportunities to individualise the driver station, our Smart Dash is also the leverage for increased communication and digitalisation in and around the truck.
“Scania trucks, buses and coaches can now be closely integrated with everything from the fleet management system to the actual driving environment and an array of cloud-based services for improved safety, uptime and productivity.”
This also future-proofs the vehicles to comply with the new EU General Safety Regulations and
Cyber Security legislation which comes into force from July 2024. Scania’s system enables a large amount of data to be processed from the vehicle to facilitate faster remote diagnostics and strong cyber security. OTA update functionality helps to keep vehicles up to date without visiting a workshop, minimising downtime.
As well as software updates, Scania has introduced a suite of physical sensors around the vehicle to improve the accuracy of its driver assistance systems. This includes radar and camera technology to establish how far away the vehicle is from other road users or roadside furniture. Alongside the side impact system receiving upgrades, vulnerable road user collision warning systems have been added at the front and rear. Driver attention support and tyre pressure monitoring systems have also been updated and speed sign information is now available too.
The smart dash is available as a 10.1-inch or 12.9-inch screen and has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as voice control capabilities.
Eduardo Landeo, product manager, Scania Trucks, said: “It is all about offering the drivers the best possible experience and making sure that new technology always supports the drivers. With this introduction, we open up a digital and connected spectrum that will benefit drivers as well as fleet owners and fleet managers. Smart and safe vehicles will bring increased productivity, fewer accidents and safer drivers.”
