Luton-based Doherty Grab Hire, a division of B&R Doherty (Haulage), has welcomed three new tippers to its fleet. Company director Darren Doherty, proudly described the new Scania XT and Volvo FMXs as being "as Swedish as you can get”, emphasising their outstanding quality and performance.
Doherty Grab Hire specialises in tipper grab work, transporting various materials such as concrete, rubble, and waste for crushing, as well as processed materials like Type 1 aggregates and screened topsoil.
"Scanias and Volvos are the best tipper chassis out there," stated Doherty. "And Thompsons' Loadmaster bodies complement them perfectly. For trucks, I'm a big fan of all things Swedish, and it's good to see that our bodies are once again built with Swedish SSAB Hardox steel. We've run this spec of body for years because there's really nothing to touch them for strength, durability, and an all-round ability to handle every type of job that comes along."
Attention to detail and the ability to deliver exactly what Doherty Grab Hire are cited as reasons behind the long-standing partnership with tipper body manufacturer Thompsons. Doherty emphasised the importance of the bodies in their operations, highlighting their strength and ability to withstand rigorous daily loading and tipping.
"Keeping the trucks loaded both ways helps maximise our efficiency,” he added. "In this business, there's no time for downtime. With tippers, it's the bodies that do the really hard work, typically being loaded and tipping out many times a day. After many years of proven performance, we still choose the double-skinned Loadmaster for the extra margin of protection the inner panels give to the outer ones. This way, the trucks remain damage-free and in top condition, giving us a first-class image for years to come."
Thompsons constructs Loadmasters using Hardox 450 steel with 5mm floors, providing excellent strength, wear resistance, and durability. The trucks are equipped with Edbro underfloor tipping gears and Epsilon grab loaders, ensuring maximum operating safety in highway applications with the inclusion of slew restrictors.
Reflecting on their longstanding relationship, Doherty said Doherty Grab Hire purchased its first Thompsons tipper body on a Volvo FL10 chassis back in 1988, and has been exclusively using Thompsons ever since.
The company generally operates their trucks for five years before selling them, and Doherty highlighted the excellent resale value of Thompsons tippers.
- Thompsons will be exhibiting at this year’s Road Transport Expo, which takes place at Stoneleigh NAEC on June 28-30. It’s FREE to attend, and registrations are now open.
