Pass Logistics has taken 12 new DAF XF 480 midlift 6x2 tractor units on contract hire and short-term rental agreements with Fraikin. The new DAFs are part of a wider initiative to replace Pass Logistics’ fleet of 18 trucks with Fraikin-supplied units. Six of the trucks were supplied on a five-year contract hire deal, including full service cover. The other six tractors were taken on a short term rental agreement with units replacing owned and leased trucks.

Adrian Sullivan, managing director at Pass Logistics, said: “Through a sequence of unfortunate circumstances, we were forced to purchase several vehicles on a finance package from our previous contract hire partner. Sadly, the trucks proved to be unreliable, while also burdening us with some costly financial commitments – Fraikin completely turned that situation around.

“The team worked quickly to help clear the existing finance agreement, then through understanding our workflows and fleet needs, they were able to build a tailored package that delivers the commercial and operational security we need. Fraikin’s efforts have transformed our business, letting us move forward hassle-free.”

From its Doncaster depot Pass Logistics operates around the clock, making reliability and uptime priorities for the smooth running of the fleet. The contract hire agreements include servicing, repairs, licensing, safety inspections, MoT testing, tyre management, roadside assistant and 24/7, 365 customer support in one consolidated fee. The trucks on short-term rental receive a similar amount of monitoring and service provision with preventative maintenance, repairs and replacement vehicle cover.

To give fleet managers visibility over maintenance requirements, Pass Logistics will have access to Fraikin’s maintenance portal FRAIKinVIEW. The platform shows scheduled and unplanned work in one place. The vehicles are also equipped with MySmartFleet, a telematics solution to view data on travelled distances, fuel economy and driver behaviour, helping Pass Logistics to assess the performance of the tractor units on their given routes and identify where driver training can be implemented to improve fuel efficiency and road safety.

Steve Williams, business development manager at Fraikin, said: “It’s been a pleasure to help Pass Logistics find the perfect solution to its fleet needs. We’re especially excited to introduce MySmartFleet to their operation, as the detailed operational AI analytics it can provide will help unlock significant savings, improve uptime and most importantly deliver additional safeguarding measures for its drivers.”

The new six contract hire trucks are liveried with a nod to the company’s recent team sponsorship of Doncaster Rovers. The XF tractors feature the names of club legends Alick Jeffery, Billy Sharp, Brian Stock, Colin Douglas, Francis Tierney and James Coppinger. Working across the UK and Europe, the vehicles are expected to clock up around 130,000km annually.

DAF Trucks and Fraikin will both be exhibiting at Road Transport Expo 2025, which takes place at NAEC Stoneleigh between 24-26 June. It’s free to attend and registrations are now open.
