Atherton-based scrap metal recycling business Maxilead Metals has expanded its fleet with the addition of an 11th truck, a Volvo FH 500 6x2 tractor unit.
The newcomer, which marks the continuation of the company's 20-year partnership with the Swedish manufacturer, was supplied by Paul McNicholas, customer solutions manager at Thomas Hardie Commercials.
"We're firm believers that Volvo is comfortably the best truck for our industry,” reckoned Maxilead Metals MD Tom Clay. Our drivers love the comfort inside the cabs, as well as the overall Volvo aesthetic too."
The new Volvo FH is powered by a Euro-6(e) complaint engine, producing 500hp and providing a peak torque of 2,500Nm. It is matched to Volvo’s 12-speed I-Shift transmission.
The truck’s Globetrotter cab has been specified with the Living+ package, which includes a premium mattress topper and a reclining bunk, as well as additional storage and a fridge/freezer. The Drive+ package adds fully electronic air conditioning, adjustable steering wheel, and a heated and suspended driver's seat.
Safety features added as part of the Visibility+ package include LED headlamps and rain-sensing windscreen wipers, and the truck is also fitted with Volvo's I-See Predictive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning systems.
Coupled to a Colson Trailers tipping trailer, the FH is expected to cover approximately 65,000km annually, delivering bulk scrap materials to customers across the North West region. It has been supplied on a five-year Volvo Gold Contract.
Maxilead Metals, which has over 35 years of experience in the scrap metal recycling sector, has also placed an order for a Volvo FL 420 rigid skip-loader, further expanding its fleet. Both vehicles will operate from the company's new state-of-the-art depot in Atherton, showcasing the company's commitment to efficient and reliable transportation in the scrap metal recycling industry.
