This week’s top used truck is an 8x4 2008-registered Mercedes-Benz Actros 3241 with a hook-lift.

It is plated on a 58-registration and has a Euro-5 12-litre engine producing 410hp. The wider specification is strong; to start with it’s got a sleeper cab, it has a multi-function steering wheel, engine brake and air-conditioning.

The chassis is fitted with a 2010 Hyva hook-lift, an electric Easy Sheet, hub-reduction axles and electrical and air connections for drawbar application.

This particular truck is one of four: it has clocked 249,000kms, its MoT has expired and the vendor Addlestone Commercials, has priced it at £44,995 (plus VAT).

The multi-axle Actros has a strong, robust reputation for being able to cope with the more arduous jobs, coupled with a little bit of sophistication.

By its very nature, lifting and dropping skips several times a day will age most trucks prematurely; the previous owners of these trucks deserve credit for keeping their vehicles in first-class condition.
