Increasingly, being a dealer is about being able to provide a complete package of services rather than just selling a truck, according to Allports Group.
Mark Sanders, joint MD at the Lichfield-based Renault dealer, said supporting operators during the whole life of the vehicle, and providing R&M, fleet management, telematics and finance packages is key. “The traditional salesman was there just to sell a truck but now it’s about offering a complete package that will benefit customers and their businesses,” he said.
“Operators these days want the certainty of fixed costs and compliance management and we can help by providing automated reports about their vehicles via email or a phone app.” Allports, which also has sites in Stoke-on-Trent, Telford and Birmingham, retails Deker double-deck curtainsiders and has a thriving truck rental department as well as its own in-house sign writing department, SignTek.
Although it largely services the distribution sector, the company plans to increase the amount of business it does with construction industry operators. Sanders is also excited by the potential of the new right-hand drive Renault Range T High with fully flat floor.
“The T High builds on the success of the Range T but also brings back some of the magic of the legendary Magnum,” he said. “It’s an aspirational vehicle with leather seats and alloy wheels and is built around driver comfort; we have a demonstrator available.”
