Former Scania (GB) sales director Andrew Jamieson (pictured) has joined Intercounty Truck & Van as MD and will take over running the Mercedes-Benz franchised dealer.
Jamieson has previous experience working for Mercedes, joining it in 1989 as a technical sales engineer.
Having left in 1994 to take up a position in Scania, Jamieson rose to become one of the company’s most senior staff members with roles in marketing, operations and sales. Jamieson has also been MD and dealer principal of Scania dealer Keltruck in the 25 years since he last worked for Mercedes-Benz.
Speaking about his new position, Jamieson said: “I was pretty successful and achieved a lot with my previous employer, but realised that the most enjoyable phase of my career was the eight years I spent running a dealer group – that’s because you have more freedom in a privately owned enterprise and can make things happen more quickly.
“I was looking for a new challenge outside the corporate environment. I was born and bred in Milton Keynes and have lived there all my life. Mercedes-Benz has changed out of all recognition since I left in 1994. Today’s product range is far wider and is very good. My background has been in trucks, so I’m looking forward to getting involved in the retail side of the van business – it will be different, but that’s part of the appeal of the job.
“Intercounty Truck & Van has some first-class facilities and a fantastic team. My task is to provide the stability and direction that will ensure we provide the focused sales support, and fast, efficient aftersales back-up, which customers of vehicles bearing the three-pointed star are entitled to expect.”
Intercountry’s headquarters are in Wellingborough, and it has branches in Boston, Lincoln, Milton Keynes, Peterborough and Toddington. As well as selling Mercedes-Benz trucks, vans and pick-ups, the dealer group also supplies the FUSO Canter range.
