The BD5 retread drive tyre from Bandvulc is now available in a 315/80 size. Now in its fifth generation, which was first seen at the 2022 Road Transport Expo, the new size expands the BD5 range to include two options. The tyre was originally introduced to replace the BD08 product in the Fleetmaster range.
Tony Mailling, head of hot retread production EMEA and ContiLifeCycle plant manager, said: “It has always been our intention to grow the range of fitments available for the BD5 tyre and with its increased popularity are pleased to launch the second size. We believe that BD5 is a great demonstration of our skills and expertise, with our in-house team responsible for the entire process of development. These abilities are critically important, as we continue to see growing interest in our retread tyre ranges. Our retread tyres offer operators a cost-effective, sustainable solution for their fleet.”
In comparison to the previous BD08 range, independent testing found the BD5 to return a lifetime mileage increased by 40%. This is said to be due to a specially designed tread compound which offers hard wearing and thermal resistant characteristics. Longer lifespan and improved wear resistance will improve uptime and reduce the frequency with which operators need to replace tyres.
The BD5 has a directional tread pattern which helps to improve handling characteristics. The tread design combined with the compounding means the BD5 has higher grip performance in wet and dry conditions. This includes good water dispersion, minimising the risk of a vehicle losing control over areas covered with water. The tread design allows for stones to be effectively ejected to avoid debris causing damage by getting stuck. BD5 has a 3PMSF certification, meaning it’s a suitable winter tyre.
Bandvulc is a long-established UK tyre retreader. In 2016, the company was acquired by Continental Tyre Group. Bandvulc offers more than 100 retread products and is based in Ivybridge, Devon.
