Ten new Volvo FH 500 trucks have been added to the fleet of BJS Home Delivery. The units have been supplied by Hartshorne Motor Services and will be used for bulk load collections from suppliers’ premises as well as general haulage.
“We’re sweating our assets with the new Volvo trucks, to maximise efficiencies,” said Gareth Pritchard, transport manager at BJS Home Deliver. “The hire and reward work mitres perfectly into our operations, as distances to collections at suppliers’ premises can be considerable and it’s not an option to run empty to these sites.”
The new FH tractor units which all have I-Shift automated transmissions and Euro-6 D13K 500hp engines bring the total fleet size of BJS up to 21 trucks. The units are built on a 4,100mm wheelbase with steel front suspension, rear air suspension and an air-actuated sliding fifth wheel. On the inside they have a single bunk with the Driver+pack for improved comfort that includes a fridge.
The new Volvos have also been covered in a striking map-style livery designed by Telling Stories and made by AST Signs. “The mainstay of our business is home delivery and assembly of furniture for our customers. The heavy truck fleet deliver into our three UK depots and play a key part in the supply chain,” Pritchard adds.
“The sales process with Jamie Stanley at Hartshorne was fantastic and this standard has continued with his after-service and on-going support levels. Our drivers like the new FHs too. The spacious and comfortable Globetrotter Cabs are proving ideal for their nights out every week,”
BJS’ first Volvo trucks began service back in Apriland have been providing good all-round fuel economy figures as they reach the fleet’s average of around 110,000km per year. BJS is also testing Volvo’s Dynafleet management system, and comparing it to their existing tracking and telematics system.
