Border Traffic Service joins its first pallet network

Border Traffic Service has joined Fortec, marking the first time the family-owned haulier has been in a pallet network.

The firm, which was set up in 1979, has a fleet of 30 vehicles today including small vans up to 44-tonne articulated lorries. It is operating from Belford to Washington, and Ashington to Haltwhistle for Fortec, and replaced Transpeed.

The Berwick-upon-Tweed-based haulier has opened a second, 4,000ft² depot in Cramlington, near Newcastle-upon-Tyne to support its Fortec pallet work.

Neil Hodgson, MD of Fortec, said: "The company has an excellent reputation in the transport industry and I look forward to what I am sure will prove to be a long and prosperous partnership with Fortec."

Border Traffic Service director Eddie Thompson, who runs the company with his father and the firm’s MD Brian, said joining a pallet network for the first time was a great opportunity for the business. “Through the partnership we are looking for steady growth, both for Border Traffic Service and for Fortec.”

Transpeed joined the Fortec network in 2010 having taken on some of the business of Caveman Consultants, which traded as The Logistix Group.
