Construction haulier BP Mitchell is upgrading and increasing the size of its fleet as it believes the market is picking up.
The fleet renewal programme will see 30 new Scania P-series tippers with Thompson loadmaster bodies; five concrete mixers with Hymix drums; two hook-loaders complete with Boughton gear; one grab loader with a Palfinger L120 loader, and two tractor units, one of which is a heavy haulage unit capable of operating at up to 150 tonnes GCW. All were ordered through BP Mitchell's local Scania dealership in South Mimms, Hertfordshire. A new Nooteboom Euro-83-04 4-axle low-loader trailer was also ordered.
Transport manager Richard Tassell tells MT the company has held on to its vehicles for longer than usual because of the recession. "Things are picking up now and after weighing up the cost of repairing and maintaining our older vehicles we decided it was time to bite the bullet and renew some of our fleet."
The orders will take BP Mitchell's fleet to 70 vehicles from 60. Anything older than an 07 plate is being auctioned on 12 March by Malcolm Harrison Auctions at the haulier's premises.
The plant and machinery side of the business is also to be renewed.
"We've decided to continue with the Volvo wheeled loading shovel and have ordered three L150 loading shovels as well as three tracked excavators from Liebherr and new tracked crushers and screeners from Sandvik," adds Tassell.
