Parcel carrier Hermes enjoyed a merry Christmas, experiencing a 26% hike in December volumes.

The Leeds-based firm, formerly Parcelnet, says it processed approximately 10 million parcels in December 2009 - a 26% increase on December 2009 volumes.

The company says it experienced 10 record days, three of which involved 500,000 parcel movements.

"The supply chain is a critical part of any retail operation, especially during the Christmas period," says Carole Woodhead, chief executive officer of Herme. "Our flexible, high-quality approach is making us [a]partner of choice for final-mile home deliveries."

Last year, the firm told RoadTransport.com that its consumer-to-consumer service had experienced increased traffic as a result of advertising on social media sites, including Facebook and eBay.
