An own-account operator has put out a call for information after his rare Scania 124L bullnose truck was stolen on Monday evening.

Andrew Riddel, owner of Riddel Scrap Metals & Skip Hire in Horncastle, Licolnshire, contacted Commercialmotor.com to ask for help in tracking down his pride and joy, which was due to go in for restoration work shortly ready for a new lease of life.

The truck was taken from the Horncastle Industrial Estate at around 6pm [where the company is based] and Riddel fears it will now be spirited out of the UK.

"If someone had stolen five tonne of copper from the yard it would have hurt but we'd cope, but this truck is pretty much irreplacable," said Riddel. "We used it to transport scrap metal and it was in mint condition running really well. It had had a new cab fitted not long back and was about to go in for work refubishing the chassis."

The 52-plate Scania's theft has been reported to Licolnshire Police with a crime reference number of 296. Riddel can be reached on 07775 504371 and is keen to hear of any sightings of the vehicle.
