A Cambridgeshire truck dealership, breakdown recovery service and haulier has been forced to appoint accountants from Baker Tilly after going into administration.
Mercedes-Benz and Renault authorised repairer Fengate Commercial Services (FCS), along with recoverer Focus Bodysystems, called in the financial experts on 21 August.
Four days later, debenture holder Lloyds TSB appointed Baker Tilly to place Fengate Holdings into administrative receivership. All the businesses share the same directors: Phil and Rita Biddlecombe.
Phil Biddlecombe was behind the launch of "micro-haulier" Fengate Logistics, part of FCS, in October 2008. At the time, he said: "A micro-haulier is traditionally seen as a one-man band or a man and a truck; but we are different, we have unique access to the complete range of vehicles to match your transport needs.
"We can match the vehicle from our fleet to keep costs down and reduce the impact on the environment."
The last available set of accounts for FCS reveal that it made a turnover of £6.7m in the year ending 31 December 2007 alongside a pre-tax profit of £81,000.
Rita Biddlecombe declined to comment; Phil Biddlecombe did not return Commercial Motor's calls. Baker Tilly was unable to respond.
A Mercedes-Benz spokesman tells CM: "We have a dealer in Peterborough who can take care of any customer query or customer service issue in terms of servicing of vehicles or maintenance of vehicles in that region."
