Refrigeration unit manufacturer Carrier Transicold, has launched a new refrigeration unit compatible with most types of electric truck. The Syberia eCool will be available to customers in both single and multi-temperature configurations and is expected to be on the market by 2024.

The unit, which is designed to be plug-and-play, will use power from the vehicle’s traction battery and convert it into the required 400v AC power needed to run the refrigeration unit. The company says the new system will also help support Carrier Transicold’s 2030 environmental, social and governance goals which aim to help its customers avoid more than 1 gigaton of greenhouse gas emissions.

“We set ourselves the challenge to develop an easy to install, all-electric solution that delivers low-energy consumption without losing efficiency. The Syberia eCool is that product that underlines our ability to meet challenges of urban electric distribution, providing an efficient and cost-effective answer to the ever-growing interest among our customer base for operating full electric trucks,” said Scott Dargan, MD UK and Northern Europe at Carrier Transicold.

Carrier says the eCool system will deliver 95 percent efficiency when converting energy to the refrigeration system and will operate below 60dB.
