Two Somerset-based haulage firms, Caxton Home Delivery and Caxton Transport, have appointed a liquidator.
The hauliers both operated out of a site in Highbridge, Somerset. Caxton Home Delivery held an O-licence to run 25 vehicles, while Caxton Transport was authorised to run 45 vehicles and 40 trailers.
Both firms appointed joint liquidators Stephen Smith and Christopher Laughton of Mercer & Hole on 16 October, following a creditors meeting on 16 October.
A spokesman for the liquidator declined to comment on the case.
According to the companies’ statement of affairs, the larger of the two firms, Caxton Transport, owed creditors £5.7m as at 16 October. However much of this, £5.1m, is owed to Lloyds TSB in the form of a cross guarantee, an agreement between connected companies when a bank lends money to one company in the group.
Other significant Caxton Transport creditors include Texaco fuel distributor OJ Williams, owed £21,965, and HMRC, owed £108,833.
Caxton Home Delivery owed a total £430,788, including £7,536 to West Trucks in Somerset, £18,666 to Driver Hire, and £74,023 to HMRC.
Both companies could not be reached for comment.
