City Link buys Gray & Adams double-deck trailers

Next day delivery specialist City Link has taken delivery of 70 Gray & Adams dry-freight double-deck trailers from Fraikin in a 10-year, full-service contract hire deal.

The 13.6m trailers have an interior height of 2.06m on the upper deck and 1.9m on the lower deck 2m-deep powered loading ramps form the lower rear closure with double rear doors forming the upper closure.

An interior two-tonne tail-lift is housed within the rear doors. The deal, worth over £1m per year, includes servicing and maintenance as well as tyres and breakdown support.

Tipper operator's vehicle impounded by VOSA

A South Yorkshire tipperman who ran a vehicle without an O-licence to earn enough to apply for one has lost his bid for its return after it was impounded by Vosa. Martin Ripley of Rotherham had sought the return of the vehicle before North-Eastern Traffic Commissioner Tom Macartney. Traffic examiner Ann Devlin said that in August 2006 Ripley had been convicted of unauthorised use by the Sheffield magistrates, and fined £300 with £115 costs.

T Quality buys 21 Volvo FL 18-tonners

Established Volvo buyer T Quality has taken delivery of the first of 21 new FL 18-tonners, which will be used for multidrop deliveries to mainly urban fish and chip shops and fast-food outlets. The trucks, which have been supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre Wales and West, have been fitted with Klege Europ bodies. These feature dual compartment bodywork, allowing the Swindon-based food supplier to handle frozen and ambient foodstuffs.

LGV movements upset Oxted residents

Residents in the Surrey village of Oxted are considering legal action to ban truck movements in and out of a local quarry on the grounds that the traffic breaches their human rights.
