Clugston Distribution Services, a division of the Clugston group, is attempting to break into the fuels distribution market following a £500,000 investment in new tankers.

General manager David Heath says he is confident there is a gap in the sector and that discussions with potential customers have been productive.

"We have no specific arrangements, but I’m talking to companies who have shown a lot of interest in us working for them," he says. "I am confident we will find the work. I actually think there’s a gap in the market for someone to do the job with high quality equipment and a focus on health and safety."

Operating from its Scunthorpe base, which is close to the Humber refineries, Clugston Distribution will initially be putting four new 44-tonne tanker combinations on the road by the end of April.

Heath adds that the model he’s created the company does not need to rely on drivers and vehicles being used on fuel distribution contracts all year round but could be used for other work instead.

And as well as expanding into intermodal markets moving specialist containers Heath says it is also moving into animal feeds too.

"Growth into the fuels market is part of Clugston Distribution’s strategic vision to diversify operational services into new market sectors, and one in which we intend to grow our presence year on year," he says.
