Schmitz Cargobull UK and Ireland has appointed Colin Maher as its new managing director.
The 52-year-old, who replaces interim MD Sebastian Terhechte, has 27 years of experience with a global manufacturer of industrial weighing and inspection technologies, where he worked in a variety of roles, including director North America, UK & Ireland. He has a strong engineering background, and also decades of sales experience.
Maher, who said he was “thrilled to be joining such a progressive and ambitious company,” is looking to double Schmitz Cargobull’s market share by 2028.
“My goal is to make sure we build on Schmitz Cargobull’s excellent reputation and achieve strong growth in the UK and Irish markets,” he said. “We are extending our product portfolio and busy ramping up production. We expect to manufacture in excess of 2,000 units in the next financial year, putting us on track to double our market share in the UK in the next five years.”
Maher said one of his key priorities will be to boost sales of the S.BO PACE and S.CS FIXED ROOF curtainsider semi-trailers, as well as the recently-launched S.CS FREEPOST. These trailers have been specially developed for the UK market, and are being built at the company’s new manufacturing plant in Manchester.
“The introduction of the new semi-trailers means we now have our strongest ever product portfolio in the UK,” declared Maher. “The build quality is superb and we’re already seeing a growing demand.
“We will be communicating more extensively about our services and products such as the galvanised chassis and TrailerConnect telematics system to further emphasise Schmitz Cargobull’s unique offerings.”
He confirmed that the company is on the verge of launching a tipping trailer in the UK market.
- Schmitz Cargobull will be exhibiting at this year’s Road Transport Expo, which takes place at Stoneleigh NAEC on June 28-30. It’s FREE to attend, and registrations are now open.
