A buyer is being sought to save 82-year-old timber haulier F W Mason & Sons, after the company was forced into administration.

Colwick, Notts-based F W Mason & Sons, trading as Masons Timber Products, appointed Christopher White and Andy Wood of The P&A Partnership as joint administrators of the business on 25 March. However, the distributor is still trading as a going concern.

Wood says: "The company had been hit by a number of factors, including rising fuel costs, lack of finance to modernise the business, and loss of long-standing customers to the multiples."

The family-run operator has an O-licence for 25 vehicles and 10 trailers, which it uses to haul its own DIY goods to retailers and timber merchants.

Wood is hoping the company will attract investors. He adds: "There is a good core business, and we believe that by continuing to trade we have the best chance of finding a buyer."
