Family haulier G Woodcock & Son has added a limited-edition Mercedes-Benz Actros Edition 1 to its fleet of seven Actros tractor units.

The Royton, near Oldham, based firm transports shipping containers nationwide and will use the new Edition 1 on its work to ports including Felixstowe, Southampton and London Gateway.

Fitted with GigaSpace cabs and with additional LED lights, black leather interior and gloss-black grille, the new Actros also has all the latest Mercedes safety equipment installed, including MirrorCam and Active Brake Assist 5.

“We’re a relatively small company in a crowded marketplace, so I felt we had to do something to really get us noticed,” explained owner Geoff Woodcock.

“It’s a fantastic-looking vehicle and makes a real statement – you certainly can’t miss it,” he added.

G Woodcock & Sons began life in the 1920s but the company in its current form was established 45 years ago by Woodcock who now runs the business with his son Nicholas.

“Our Actros tractors have proved over many years to be extremely reliable and cost-effective to operate. They’re also great to drive and provide a comfortable living and working space. The Actros Edition 1 combines all of these qualities with an added layer of exclusivity,” Woodcock said.
