A jailed Aberdeenshire haulier has received a 10-year O-licence disqualification following scams aimed at VOSA and the Traffic Commissioner (TC).

At a public inquiry on 2 November to investigate the repute of William Robertson from Aboyne, trading as William Robertson Haulage, Scottish TC Joan Aitken revoked the haulier's four-vehicle, eight-trailer O-licence.

The TC wanted to consider Robertson's repute following the haulier's convictions of conspiracy to defraud and of lending documents.

In March, Robertson was sentenced to 12 months concurrent. The charges were related to a scam where Robertson and two others were involved in offering spaces on other O-licences and selling them for profit to those not entitled to them.

The TC said: "A period of 10 years would serve the regulatory purposes and it will give Robertson a clear indication of the sort of period needed before he could contemplate any return to goods vehicle operating, whether as operator, driver, or in some other arrangement."

The disqualification came into effect on 27 November.
