European cold storage distributors Cool Solutions is recording a 0.5mpg saving on its five recently purchased Euro-5 Volvo FH 460s with SCR technology.

Trevor Underwood, company director at Cool Solutions, says: "We were worried that using AdBlue might have an effect on fuel consumption, but this latest engine has really impressed.

"We went straight from Euro-3 to Euro-5 because our assessment suggested Euro-4 would be a 'ghost' specification with no real benefits."

Underwood adds that the AdBlue issue shouldn't cloud opinion when purchasing, and that usage has to be made as simple as possible.

"You need to look beyond the AdBlue issue and focus on the vehicle and what it can do. AdBlue is a necessity and the simpler you make it to use, the less it will interfere with your operation."

Current usage for the company is put at 30 litres per truck per week over 2,500km.

The company, which mainly operates in the Benelux countries, Germany, and Northern France, is set to take on another five FH 460s in September, with a further five arriving in October.

"We choose Volvo thanks to the excellent relationship we have with the Crossroads dealership in Hull.

"I've been dealing with them for 25 years and the service is spot-on. Our fleet will be practically 100% Volvo by September 2009."
