Cotteswold Dairy is reducing its carbon footprint with six new Carrier Transicold-powered Gray & Adams temperature-controlled trailers, and 12 Eco-Drive systems.

The mono-temperature Vector HE 19s are attached to 13.6m trailers. Six DAF XF tractors have been fitted with Eco-Drive systems and the rest are paired with other new vehicles. The Eco-Drive setup allows the Vector units to be powered via the tractor’s engine, which reduces operating costs.

Cotteswold Dairy fleet manager, Ruairi Spencer, said: “We’ve placed our trust in Carrier Transicold for more than two decades, so we are well aware of the quality and reliability its products bring to the table. Having seen the impressive fuel economy, operating noise and performance of our four existing Vector HE 19 trailers, it was a no-brainer to specify more for the business. Adding the powerful Eco-Drive system to the fleet has also been a long-standing plan, so we’re looking forward to reaping the benefits they will deliver across our operation.”

The Vector HE 19 unit has a multi-speed engine design which delivers up to 30% fuel savings compared with the previous generation Vector 1950. A fully hermetic scroll compressor and economiser provides a 40% increase in refrigeration capacity during pull-down, lowering the chance of refrigerant escape by 50%. Thanks to the new technology utilised in this system, it’s 3dB(A) quieter than the last generation.

Key account manager at Carrier Transicold UK, Tony Biggs, said: “We’re delighted to continue our close working relationship with Cotteswold Dairy, particularly with the addition of the new Eco-Drive units. This is a fantastic next step, and we are excited to accelerate ongoing efforts to help decarbonise its fleet.”

The new units are covered under Carrier Transicold’s BluEdge fixed cost maintenance package. This provides Cotteswold Dairy with access to oneCALL 24/7 incident management, annual temperature control testing and certification as well as full regulatory checks.
