Coultons Bread, which trades as Happy Bread, has reapplied for an O-licence after appointing a new transport manager.

The company, which lost its 15-vehicle restricted O-licence in June after being implicated in a Driver CPC fraud, has recruited former DHL transport manager Gerry Gorman.

Gorman is now leading the O-licence application for a standard national licence for eight vehicles. If the application is successful, the operator plans to reinstate deliveries to and from its bakeries in Bradford and Newcastle using its fleet of four 7.5-tonne Ivecos.

Speaking to CM, Coultons Bread MD Howard Hunter said the company had restructured the transport division after losing its O-licence.

He added: “The people who were involved in losing our licence are no longer with the firm and we have taken on Gerry Gorman, who brings a lot of experience in the transport sector.

“Gerry will head up our transport operations as our new transport logistics manager, and we are also interviewing a shortlist of two candidates for the role of transport executive, so we’ve strengthened the team.”

Hunter added that the firm has also taken its Driver CPC training in-house, with all training to be led by Gorman, who is Jaupt-registered.

The Liverpool-based bakery firm’s O-licence application comes after its successful bid for two major public sector framework contracts with the Yorkshire Procurement Organisation and the University Caterers’ Organisation.

Coultons Bread has also extended its partnership with Allied Bakeries and will open a depot in Caernarfon in November. From there, it will deliver Allied Bakeries’ bread products across North Wales using its fleet of 3.5-tonne Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans.

The company is recruiting 19 drivers for the new depot.
