Lochmaben, Dumfriesshire-based Lochmaben Transport may be forced to close after a customer went into voluntary liquidation owing it £19,600. The construction-focused haulier, which runs 14 trucks and employs 14 drivers, has had a contract with quarrying firm Landrec UK for several years.

However owner Steven Walker says that after Lochmaben completed a job carrying stone to a road-building project on the A7, Landrec failed to pay the last two payments - totalling £19,600 - and then went into voluntary liquidation.

Having attended the creditors' meeting, Walker says it is unlikely Lochmaben will receive any money. "The construction market is so bad at the moment that most of my trucks are parked up. It may force us to close the business, but things cannot keep going as they are."
