DAF Trucks has expanded its award-winning XD range with the addition of a new 6.7-litre PX-7.
The Cummins-built engine, which is also available in top-rated LFs, is being offered with power ratings of 230hp, 260hp, 290hp and 310hp. It compliments the existing MX-11 engine, and means XD buyers can now choose from ratings of 230hp through to 450hp.
The non-EGR engine has been completely redesigned, and features a new low-weight Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) block and cast-iron cylinder head, new low-friction pistons, a new highly efficient compressor and a new turbo charger. DAF says it offers a 600kg weight saving over the 10.8-litre MX-11.
The PX-7 is matched to ZF’s new 8-speed PowerLine torque converter fully-automatic transmission. It’s a heavier-duty development of the ZF 8HP which is offered in a number of different cars and vans, and already features in the DAF LF.
Although various cab variants will eventually be offered, the new engine will initially only be available in 4x2 rigids with Day Cabs. These can be specified with PACCAR box bodies or curtainsiders, designed and installed at the Leyland Trucks assembly plant. A wide range of body dimensions and options are available, including factory fitted tail-lifts and load restraint systems. DAF claims this “true one-stop-shop” gives operators the benefit of shorter, and more predictable lead times.
The DAF XD is the International Truck of the Year 2023, and DAF expects the new engine to further strengthen its position in the distribution and vocational segment.
- DAF will be exhibiting at this year’s Road Transport Expo, which takes place at Stoneleigh NAEC on June 28-30. It’s FREE to attend, and registrations are now open. In addition to seeing its full range of new generation trucks, you’ll be able to get behind the wheel of some on the ride and drive.
