DAF Trucks is launching a new data communication system enabling operators to optimise their fleet management and business process.

The DAF Telematics and Infotainment System consists of a control unit integrated into the dashboard, a central computer (mounted in the truck) and an internet portal which allows the unit to connect to the home base. The home base and on-board unit connect to each other via GPRS, sharing journey details and route information. An optimum route is chosen via the home base and automatically sent to the truck’s navigation system.

The functions offered by the system include messaging, navigation, route planning, geo fencing, tracking, tracing and performance monitoring. It also gives the added option of fitting a camera.

The system will be available from the end of 2007 for the CF and XF models; all Euro-3 CF and XF models can be retrofitted with the system.
