DAF has opened a new electric truck assembly plant at its main production site in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
The new site will build electric versions of DAF's XD and XF which are powered by PACCAR e-Motors and equipped with battery packs ranging between 210 kWh and 510 kWh. Production of both XD and XF electric variants is due to start in the summer.
The new plant covers an area of 5,000sq m and features two sub-assembly lines, one to build the battery packs and the other to focus on the electric drive module. The trucks will then be assembled on the 150m-long assembly line.
Harald Seidel, DAF Trucks president, said: “The commissioning of the new DAF Electric Truck Assembly plant represents another important milestone on the road to an even cleaner future”. Seidel added: “To support our customers in the transition to zero emission road transport, we go further than delivering class-leading full electric vehicles. Our comprehensive package includes a broad range of charging solutions, advice on planning of routes and charging, and the provision of dedicated training for drivers to get the best out of the vehicles.”
The new trucks have a claimed range of up to 500km, and support fast charging of up to 350kW, allowing them to be charged to 80% capacity in just 45 minutes.
