Fuel distributor New Era Fuels has added a DAF CF 340 FAN tanker to its fleet, which is powered by and delivering HVO (hydro-treated vegetable oil).
The vehicle is decked out in Green D+ HVO promotional liveries in an effort to boost awareness of the fuel, which is an environmentally friendly alternative to diesel.
It is fitted with the manufacturer’s electro-hydraulic steering (EHS) system on the rearmost axle, a 20,000-litre COBO tank and Alpeco metering equipment. Supplied by Harris DAF in Lea Valley, which is also providing service and maintenance, it includes Safe System equipment to render it compliant with London’s Direct Vision Standards.
The company already operates a number of trucks from the manufacturer between 12 and 26 tonnes, and is due to take delivery of another six CF 340s early next year.
According to the manufacturer – which describes itself as a “vocal proponent of HVO” – the fuel offers a 90% well-to-wheel reduction in CO2, an 86% reduction in particulate matter and a 30% reduction in NOX emissions compared with conventional diesel. It is typically more expensive than bunkered diesel, but vehicles generally do not require modification in order to run on the fuel.
“As a direct alternative to diesel, it makes for a compelling case for truck operators who wish to make a serious reduction to their carbon footprint,” said New Era CEO Reg Geggus, “a wholesale switch to Green D+ HVO would deliver an immediate and significant impact.”
