Mercedes-Benz dealer Intercounty Truck and Van has delivered 30 7.5-tonne Mitsubishi Canters to Dawson Rentals. The trucks, powered by the 7C18 5.0-litre 180hp engine, are specified for different markets and fitted with box, curtainsider, and insulated bodies.

Dawson managing director Steve Miller says the Canter "offers three particular advantages that will make it an attractive proposition for our customers".

"Firstly, it is physically smaller than most 7.5-tonners. Those compact dimensions make it ideal for work in city centres, narrow streets or anywhere that access is tight. It sits slightly lower than most vehicles at this weight too, which means climbing in and out of the cab, as well as lifting items on and off the loadbed, is much easier," he says.

"Secondly, the Canter chassis is also light for a vehicle in this weight category, which gives it a significant body/payload allowance advantage over its competitors. That's obviously a key factor for anyone carrying heavy items, but also for operators in the temperature-controlled distribution sector, for example, where a heavy refrigerated body can take a big bite out of a truck's payload-carrying capacity.

"Lastly, the Canter is supported by Mercedes-Benz. That's one of the main reasons we were happy to invest in this product. We know the Mercedes dealer network well and have always been very well looked after our customers, too, will be reassured by the fact that top-quality backup is available."
