The electrification of the Dawsongroup rental and contract hire fleet continues apace with a gully sucker and five new road sweepers.
A Whale fully electric MVC (medium volume combination tanker) known as the eWhale was fitted to the back of a Scania 25P electric truck, which will be available under contract hire, explained Adam Eddy, sales manager south.
“It can do everything a diesel truck can do, it can carry 1,800 gallons and do 100 drains a day,” he said.
The Scania has four batteries on the chassis but the battery cells for the road sweepers are behind the cab of the DAF LF. The work has been carried out by Bucher, explained technical support engineer Mike Rangecroft.
“It is plated at 16 tonnes and can carry 5.5 tonnes payload with the 6.5m3 volume tank. It generates 225kW of power from 128 individual battery cells and will do an eight-hour shift.
"When there is 20% energy left in the battery, the brushes are raised, and the driver will have enough power to get home," he said.
“The MaxPowa V65e will be available through contract hire for up to seven years to lessen the overall cost,” he added. “Usually, it would be a shorter contract hire deal with a diesel-powered road sweeper.”
Contract hire also means it’ll be Dawson Group that carries out the servicing and maintenance and it is currently putting technicians through electric vehicle training.
