Dennison has moved curtainsider production from Ireland to the UK, following the opening of a new ten-bay manufacturing plant adjacent to its Lancaster factory.

"This is a major investment in curtainsiders and shows that we’re serious about the curtainsider market," says MD James Dennison (pictured), who has plans to increase the company’s presence in the UK market.

"We are known as a chassis builder. But now we want to break down the barriers and get big operators to think of Dennison when they are buying curtainsiders," he says.

"Of the 18,000 trailers sold in the UK each year, 12,000 are curtainsiders. So we know that we need to be serious players in this market."

Although its curtainsider was launched a few years already, Dennison admits that early examples were not perfect. However he is confident that product is now exactly right for the UK market. He says they have more standard features than much of the competition, including bulkhead pockets to store internal load restraint straps safely. "Drivers and owners like what they get from us. Quality is paramount and the new manufacturing facilities will help us achieve even greater levels of quality."

The company is currently manufacturing just eight curtainsiders a week, but Dennison says this will rise to ten units this year.

"And if the market wants 20, then we will build 20," he adds. "We don’t want to compete with the likes of Schmitz. We just want to produce a quality product and gradually grow our sales."
