DHL Express has praised its staff for working beyond the call of duty to try and minimise delivery disruption caused by the adverse weather.

The firm says it is still experiencing some delays to collections and deliveries in Scotland and northern England because of the snow, but says problems last week were kept to a minimum by hardworking employees.

A company spokesman says: "With the closure of Edinburgh Airport, some parcels were moved by road from Glasgow and Edinburgh to East Midlands Airport to make connections to the rest of Europe, and in-coming flights were re-routed to Glasgow. When adverse weather is forecast we contact regular customers to bring forward collection times, and ensure that there is as little disruption as possible."

Employee Darren Howitt was singled out for cycling 26 miles to get into work at Newbridge, Edinburgh last week.
