DHL Exel Supply Chain's green credentials have helped the company scoop the renewal of a contract with retailer TK Maxx for £100m. TK Maxx says the five-year deal - which represents the largest and longest contract it has ever signed - will help with its ambitious growth strategy for the UK and Europe.

A spokeswoman for TK Maxx says the green challenge played a key role in awarding the contract: "TK Maxx has a commitment to reduce its carbon footprint, while certainly DHL has a number of green transport solutions," says the spokeswoman. She says the partnership with DHL has developed over the past 13 years.

DHL says the next stage of the partnership should enable the company to improve the supply chain so that product flows more quickly into stores. Cross-docking and a shared user operation will help cut transport costs and improve delivery frequency.
