Operators running to the Continent will now be able to benefit from the reduced fuel consumption offered by Don-Bur's Teardrop trailer, after it produced a four-metre high version that complies with the height restriction in place across Europe.
Richard Owens, marketing manager at Don-Bur, says the new version will also be aimed at UK operators that wantg a lower-height trailer, as well as opening up potential export makets for the Stoke-based manufacturer. The standard Teardrop design is 4.5m high.
The Euro-spec Teardrop has 96.28m3 of internal space, just 0.53m3 less than a standard 4.0m trailer.
DHL Supply Chain will use the first of these new trailers on an operation that runs between the Netherlands and Germany. It says that a comparable load space was a key concern of the company.
It expects the trailer to provide a 10% reduction in fuel use and save up to 25 tonnes of CO2 during its first year of operation.
The running deck height of the trailer is 790mm high and rear access to the loadspace is 2,240mm. The wheels are 17.5-inch with 215/75 tyres.
To raise the deck height to the required 1.2m load access height for its contract, Don-Bur specified BPW high-lift air suspension that will raise the trailer by 245mm.
