Dollar Industries sales director Guy Barker: 60-second interview

My favourite holiday destination is…
Italy, for the food, wine, culture, scenery and (of course) the trucks and cars. We also love Devon and Cornwall as well as a place called Mojacar in Spain, which has an excellent climate and lovely beaches.

I drive…
An Audi A6 Allroad.

My hobbies are…
Following F1, Moto GP and spending time with family and friends.

My favourite TV programme is…
Designated Survivor.

The celebrity I would most like to meet is…
If he was still alive, Enzo Ferrari.

I got into the industry because…
My grandfather was in the motor trade. Also my dad started with Fiat/Iveco in 1979, so it was sort of in my blood.

To encourage more young people into the industry we should…
Get into the schools and promote the opportunities available not just in sales, but on the repair side. Trucks are high-tech pieces of equipment that need engineers to maintain them. It’s important that we offer quality apprenticeships.

The outlook for our sector of the market over the next 12 months is…
Challenging. The uncertainty of Brexit, lack of demand in the export market, and competition from contract hire means we in the used trucks business need to work hard.

Dollar Industries is different from the competition because…
We are a family business, so it’s personal. We don’t just want to sell you a truck, but build a relationship. Many of our customers buy via phone or email without seeing the truck.

  • Check out our dedicated Dollar Industries dealer page if you're in the market for a truck - it's full of the latest deals.
