Allied Bakeries and Don-Bur have partnered to create a new generation of high-volume box van double deck trailers.
The new design means there’s space for 52 UK pallets in each trailer, significantly reducing emissions by making each trip more efficient.
The straight-frame tri-axle trailers have an overall height of 5m and a fifth wheel height of 1.09m, allowing for internal heights over 1.8m on both decks. An optimised load footprint allows maximum capacity for a trailer of this length. The high-volume double-deck trailers will replace two single deck equivalents, nearly halving carbon emissions for every delivery.
Keith Thomson, national fleet engineer at Allied Bakeries, said: "The strength of our partnership with Don-Bur lies in our shared commitment to innovation and operational excellence. These latest trailers are testament to that commitment and we look forward to rolling them out across our fleet in the coming years, making our distribution more efficient while also contributing to our overall carbon reduction efforts."
Both decks feature ribbed aluminium Bakadek planks for easy maintenance and cleaning. The rear frame is made from high-polish stainless steel and the chassis is galvanised so the trailers last. Externally, the livery was produced by Don-Bur’s in-house team, Sapphire, Graphics House.
Jon Davis, key account manager at Don-Bur, said: "Working hand in hand with Allied Bakeries over the years has been a privilege. Manufacturing and delivering these trailers is the result of our collective dedication to understanding the demands of the operation and pushing the boundaries of what's possible in commercial vehicle design."
A partnership of more than two decades between Don-Bur and Allied Bakeries has resulted in other trailer innovations such as, a hygienic ‘wash out’ trailer environment and a split internal and external tail-lift to accommodate loading both decks from bays or at store ground level.
