Poundland has received 23 new wedge lifting deck box van longer semi trailers (LSTs) from Don-Bur.

At 15.65m long, the trailers can carry up to 60 UK pallets, which increases capacity over a standard length doubledeck trailer by eight pallets. This improved design contributes to Poundland’s sustainability goals to reduce its environmental impact and improve efficiency by delivering more goods per trip and reducing overall mileage.

Daniel Challinor, sales and commercial director at Don-Bur, said: “We are delighted to have worked with Poundland to design, manufacture and deliver the new green Lifting Deck LSTs. These trailers offer a number of significant benefits, including increased payload capacity, reduced emissions and improved safety and efficiency. We are confident that they will help Poundland to achieve its operational and environmental goals.”

The trailer’s wedge shape allows access to the entire length of the bottom deck for easy loading and unloading. Each level has a minimum aperture of 1.725m to improve safety and loading efficiency for operatives. Instead of a twin tyre configuration, the trailers have 445/45 R19.5 mini singles wheels for better fuel consumption and reduced wear.

Greg Peacock, central transport operations manager at Poundland, said: “We’re pleased to have partnered with Don-Bur - the introduction of these new trailers will help us make a positive impact, carrying more goods per trip and reducing our overall vehicle mileage.”

The LSTs are also fitted with a self-steer axle, compliant with new STGO regulations and single ram and pulley technology. This pulley system has been tried and tested by Don-Bur and developed as a reliable and durable solution. The side panels are 7.5mm thick and made with Don-Bur’s ‘Blade’ panels to give greater internal width whilst being more durable and damage resistant than a GRP alternative.
