A Romanian truck driver has been charged with importation after Border Force officers at the Channel Tunnel entrance in France found about 31kg of cocaine in his truck.
The drugs, with an estimated value of £1.3m, were found at Coquelles on 20 July in a Slovakian-registered vehicle, which was carrying a mixed load. The driver, Alin-Cristian Prian, appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on 21 July where he withheld his plea and was remanded in custody. He appeared briefly at an initial hearing at Canterbury Crown Court on 4 August, where he is now due to reappear on 20 October.
