Police in Scotland have warned that truck and van drivers may be asked to pull over due to high winds, after an LGV driver died when his vehicle overturned in this morning.
The truck overturned onto two cars in Bathgate, West Lothian, today (5 December). Police Scotland are now urging drivers in Edinburgh, the Lothians, Scottish Borders, Fife and Forth Valley to wait until the high winds have subsided before continuing their journeys.
The Kessock Bridge in Inverness, and Skye Bridge are currently closed to high-sided vehicles.
In the North of England, the Highways Agency is reporting a possible LGV blow-over on the A1 near Doncaster and two overturned trucks on the northbound M6 in Cumbria, with all three lanes closed for recovery.
Both the Ouse Bridge on the M62 and the Humber Bridge have been closed to high-sided vehicles and advisory speed signs have been set in a number of areas across the North West.
Chief Superintendent Iain Murray head of road policing at Police Scotland said: “The weather in Scotland can change very quickly and it’s vital drivers are prepared… I would advise motorists to take care. Allow extra time for your journey and a keep a few emergency supplies, such as water and food in your vehicle to cover any eventualities.”
