Six drivers working for Jobe Transport, Norwich, were found guilty of a total of 84 driving offences at Ipswich Crown Court earlier this month, following a two-year investigation by Vosa into alleged false driver hours records. Vosa's Eastern Investigation team inspected drivers' hour's records between November 2005 and May 2006 for all vehicles on the licence and for 10 drivers at the company, which specalised in container movements to and from Felixstowe.
Records from the port of Felixstowe showed vehicles collecting and dropping off containers, but the drivers' records showed no sign of movements at the said times. Also, drivers claimed to be elsewhere when they were at the port. All six drivers pleaded guilty to 84 false record offences. Three drivers were setenced to 250 hours community service while one received 200 hours. Two drivers were electronically tagged under curfew between 7pm and 7am, one for 12 weeks and the other for 14.
