Danish transport giant DSV has significantly added to its UK operations with the acquisition of Preston-based UK-Ireland specialist Roadferry from its parent company Peel Ports for an undisclosed sum.
The firm – formed by the merger of DFDS and Frans Maas in 2006 – says the move will deliver benefits to the customers of both companies.
“This move will allow DSV to significantly enhance our service offering between Great Britain and Ireland,” says Rene Falch Olesen, managing director of DSV Road Limited in the UK. “We intend to invest in growing Roadferry while bringing the organisation into the DSV family.”
One a side-effect of the deal is that DSV is now a shareholder in Palletline thanks to Roadferry’s long-standing membership of the network.
Last year Roadferry’s turnover was £49.4m, with pre-tax profits of £1m.
Roadferry’s MD Jim McGhee will take up a director role at DSV.
