Mercedes-Benz Trucks has completed its summer testing of the battery-electric eActros 600 in Spain. During five weeks of testing in Andalusia with temperature of up to 44C engineers scrutinised air conditioning system as well as the performance of the electric powertrain and battery thermal management while on rapid charging stations.
Dr. Konrad Götz, deputy head of global testing at Mercedes-Benz Trucks said: “We have subjected the eActros 600 to rigorous testing procedures since last year. After winter testing in Finland in freezing cold temperatures down to -25C and initial tests on public roads, the electric truck now had to prove itself at over 40C in Spain. The eActros 600 mastered the challenging tests with ease. In the next step, we're now looking forward to testing in real-life operation with our customers.”
During testing, the prototype completed more than 2,000km travelling from Granada via Valencia, Barcelona, Montpellier and Lyon before heading back to the Mercedes-Benz Trucks development and testing centre in Wörth am Rhein.
The next phase in the eActros programme will be its world premiere on the 10 October.
Mercedes says the new design language of the eActros 600 “breaks the familiar look of the Actros model series” and uses elements from the concept prototype first shown at the IAA in Hannover last year.
Power comes from three battery packs giving the eActros 600 a total capacity of more than 600kWh with two electric motors forming part of a new e-axle with a 400kW continuous output and peak power of over 600kW.
Lithium-iron phosphate will, theoretically, allow the eActros 600 to be charged from 20% to 80% in under 30 minutes when using a one-megawatt charger.
