Taking your HGV test is always going to be a nerve-wracking affair. But when you’re Edd Stobart hoping to keep the famous haulage name alive and are being trailed by a camera crew filming every moment, even a committed Stobart Group grumbler would offer their sympathy. Possibly.

As it was, the 20-year-old son of chief operating officer William Stobart, rose to the challenge and passed first time, with the help of fellow Cumbrian firm System Training, and then even had the humour to inform his dad that he had failed due to mowing down a granny.
